I have now had the phone for just under 24 hours, and I can honestly say I am amazed. It is a real treat to find a phone with a great screen, blazing speed, smooth operating system, and a clean customizable user interface.

The screen is plenty big and crisp resolution (480×800 – 3.7 inch) for viewing websites and small enough to still fit comfortably in my pocket. The screen is not perfect outdoors in the sunlight, but I’ve never seen a phone that has done this well, so I don’t hold it against it. Flip the screen and you will have a very good personal media player (very close to widescreen 16×9 resolution).

Blazing speed. It’s got a 1 Ghz processor. It’s fast, enough said.

Smooth Operating System. Android has proven itself by now becoming the mobile operating system with the most web traffic, and I can see why. It works really well, and it can multitask (a feature some other mobiles struggle with). This tops even the iPhone OS, and it just happened for the first time in March 2010.

Clean customizable user interface. HTC Sense is amazingly intuitive. It guides you along while keeping the look and feel clean. It’s easy to change it up so your phone doesn’t look and sound like everyone else’s.

FM radio. Why not throw everything and the kitchen sink in?

This is all not to mention the camera. 8 Megapixels on a phone!

I have barely used the wi-fi, but I can say that it worked. I haven’t had a chance to toy with bluetooth or gps yet. I’m hoping they keep up the pace with the other features.

No physical keyboard, I’m not gonna skip the issue here. It comes down to a personal preference. I prefer a thinner phone, with no moving parts, and I am used to having a virtual keyboard. I love the virtual keyboard. Others clearly prefer a real keyboard, and more power to them, this is not the phone for them.

Android Market. Tons of content, not as much bs process of getting apps into as the other big app store, it will probably make this the biggest and best app market in a matter of months.

Network. Verizon. Almost unquestionably the best (at least best covered) 3g service in the United States. This is the phone to beat!

With Windows Mobile making its big charge into the world of high-end media phones, devices with big screens are naturally going to do better. Let\’s take a look at the two biggest screens on the market today: the HTC Touch HD and the stunning Toshiba TG01.

HTC Touch HD – go with the FLO

Windows Mobile is an incredibly powerful beast, and it\’s run in some of the most powerful phones on the planet. However, when you get down to it, some of the icons and menus can be a little bit, well, fiddly. However, the HTC Touch HD actually does a very good job of making it so you don\’t have to go into standard Windows menus that often, as on top of the operating system, the interface is HTC\’s patented TouchFLO 3D setup, where everything is achieved through various finger swipes and sweeping gestures. It is truly intuitive, and it\’s the reason why the HTC Touch HD is such an unmitigated joy to use. Of course, it\’s not all about being pretty, a phone needs to have decent features and the HTC Touch HD has them in spades, from the 5 megapixel camera, through GPS, to incredibly fast HSDPA internet access (not to mention the superb Opera Mobile web browser). To any, the HTC Touch HD is the ultimate Windows Mobile phone.

However, it no longer has the honour of having the biggest screen in the land, because it\’s been usurped by a phone from a company who have not much of a history of making mobile phones at all…

Toshiba TG01 – the new benchmark

For several months, the HTC Touch HD held the crown as having the biggest screen on a mobile phone, but that\’s not true any more, because the Toshiba TG01 tops it. Coming in at a massive 4.1 inches, it\’s almost half an inch bigger than screen on the HD, so for things like the internet, and videos, the Toshiba TG01 is really the king of the hill. It\’s not just about screen size, though, because the Toshiba TG01 also has processing power. Lots of it. Its chipset comes in at over 1GHz, taking into realms only previously available on laptops. And since it\’s a new generation of \’Snapdragon\’ processor, it\’s also incredibly efficient, meaning it won\’t drain your battery in minutes. The Toshiba TG01 is truly a wondrous device, and is quite simply (having stolen the crown from the Touch HD and the X1 Xperia from Sony Ericsson) the most powerful Windows Mobile phone ever made!
